About The Events

“Making most of the spare time national lockdowns gifted him, Matthew Loughlin-Day, frontman of The Shipbuilders recorded two albums on his phone, ‘Goldfinch’ and ‘Nuthatch’, that saw the light of day via Mai 68 Records in 2021.

A much more pastoral, introspective affair than the ramshackle chaos of The Shipbuilders, both albums bring to mind smatterings of Bill Callahan, Bill Ryder-Jones and Nick Drake. Work is underway on a third album, which will be released in 2022.”

Supporting Matthew will be The Gingerbread Man.

“Since his departure from The Shipbuilders, The Gingerbread Man has been writing and recording his debut EP set to be released in Summer 2022. Tipping his hat to Cohen, Reed, and McCulloch, he has a strong interest in blending the romantic with the macabre. This is evidenced in his often-surreal lyrical approach to themes of fantasy and death. With previous performances at The Angus and Future Yard, this will be his most intimate appearance yet.”

Also Supporting will be Iesu Drist:

“Iesu Drist” is the pseudonym used by Kyle Lee (COW, Gintis, The Mexican Walking Fish) and roughly translated means “Sad Jesus” in Welsh.

Kyle Lee has been performing as a singer songwriter for over a decade but decided to hang up the acoustic guitar a long time ago. He’s now back with some new songs and intends on recording his debut EP under the name of “Iesu Drist” later on this year.

With his melancholic song writing style, Kyle draws on influences such as Wilco, Bright Eyes and Mojave 3 and has previously had radio play across England and Wales, securing radio sessions and festival slots along the way.
